The Affordable Health Care Act has a wide-reaching effect and health service reimbursements have been hit with a reduction in the amount that Medicare and other insurance companies are paying to Emergency Medical Services. This could affect your own insurance coverage and out-of-pocket expenses.
A membership subscription is now more vital than ever to keep expenses down in the case of an emergency.
The Upper Perkiomen Ambulance Association provides round-the-clock basic and advanced life support emergency medical service, 365 days a year. It is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, composed of local citizen volunteers and staffed by dedicated, professional Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Our organization is a proud provider of emergency healthcare to the Upper Perkiomen Valley!
If I have health insurance, do I also need a membership? YES! In many cases, depending on your carrier, your insurance may not cover 100% of your bill in the event you need an emergency transport to a hospital. If you need a basic emergency transport, the cost begins at around $800. For an advanced emergency transport, the cost begins at around $1,300. The average insurance company will pay approximately one-third of the charge and you will be responsible for the remainder of the bill. Your membership will cover the difference with the exception of any deductibles as mandated by Federal Law.
How does UPVAA get paid if I am transported to the hospital? In the event you need an ambulance, UPVAA will submit a bill to your insurance company. Insurance payments are then applied to your balance. Once your insurance benefits are exhausted, we write off any remaining balance if you are an active member.
What should I do if my insurance company sends me a check for payment of services provided by UPVAA? Some insurance companies send payment for services directly to the subscriber. If the insurance company sends you a full or partial payment for our services, please forward it directly to UPVAA so it can be applied to your outstanding balance.
Is my membership tax deductible? YES! As a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization all of your donations are tax deductible. Please speak to your tax professional for specific information about how your membership will impact your tax situation.
Although we strive to provide service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, there are rare occasions when we are not available because we are busy on another emergency.
If we cannot provide service, the closest available ambulance will be sent to render emergency medical care. UPVAA cannot be responsible for any billing for care rendered by another ambulance service.
